October 22 News

October 22 News by Sophia and Alison

This week Edie taught how to use the drum. We tried to make sounds in two different ways. I tried the "jim-bay" (Sophia) and I tried the big drum with a stick (Alison).
We said good bye to our student teacher Mr. Deacon. He read us his favourite book called The Important Book and we wrote the important things about us in our writing journals.
We listened to the story The Tales of a Gambling Grandma. The grandma in the story liked to play cards for treasures.
We made three dimensional pumpkins out of folded, orange paper with green and black paper to make jack-o-lanterns. These are now hanging from the ceiling outside of our class.
We made pictures to show rural and urban communities. The rural art was a drawing that we painted and the urban art showed buildings cut out of newspaper.
The students have been working hard learning their doubling facts and how to add and subtract quickly.
We saw a video about Halloween. Trick or treating started a long time ago and they did it by going to other people's houses and asking for food.
We listened to the spooky story called The Tailypo and we started planning to write our own spooky stories.
We practised singing the song lyrics we wrote to the song Boom De Ya Da. We each sing by ourselves the words that we wrote.
A person from Japan visited our class to learn about students in Canada. Her name is Rie. She will come back next week.
Good bye from Sophia and Alison
